Polk-Vernon Neighborhood Association was founded in 2016 to engage and keep our neighbors aware of opportunities and concerns, including the rapid changes happening in Oak Cliff around development and gentrification. There are approximately 375 homes constructed in the late 1950s & 60s. Polk-Vernon is a diverse working-class neighborhood comprised of long-established families who have lived in the neighborhood well over 30 years, as well as new families joining the neighborhood.

The Modern Cajon
Jazz Ensemble

Len Barnett presents The Modern Cajon Jazz Ensemble, founded in 2018 to introduce percussion-driven jazz to Dallas area audiences. The ensemble takes its name from a Cuban/Latin American drum called a cajon, a box drum, used in traditional and contemporary Afro-Cubano music. The ensemble features some of Dallas’s most exciting jazz artists, playing music that explores a wide range of percussive sound ranging from the traditional (piano and drum) to the wildly unusual (gas pipe and Brazilian berimbau.)

Alegre Ballet Folklorico Grupo Infantil

Alegre Ballet Folklorico is an Oak Cliff based dance troupe that uses traditional and creative elements to educate dancers and audiences on the culture and history of Mexico. The organization was founded in September of 1993 by Pedro Perez, and has trained hundreds of dancers from children to adults over their 33 year history!

Polk-Vernon Neighborhood Association is located between the Wynnewood North and Elmwood Neighborhood Associations. The boundaries are: Illinois Ave., Vernon Ave., Polk St. and the DART rail line. Also within the Polk-Vernon Neighborhood Association boundaries is the popular Tyler Station, located in a revitalized warehouse.
